About CCA's MFA Writing program

Creative Environment
A different kind of graduate school experience. CCA's Writers' Studio is a tranquil, green urban oasis nestled amongst a vibrant community of makers in an art school setting.

Diverse, Professional Faculty
MFA in Writing students at CCA can work closely with program chair Leslie Carol Roberts, New York Times best-selling authors Tom Barbash and Jasmin Darznik, leading poets Joseph Lease and Tonya Foster, or explore writing for social and community impact with Faith Adiele, Aimee Phan, and Eric Olson.

Internships
Internships are vastly important to any grad school student. Our program includes invaluable writing internships throughout the Bay Area's rich publishing and nonprofit communities.

Mentored Study
We provide you with one-on-one study with MFA Writing faculty mentors, offering a unique opportunity to pursue your own direction with focus and intensity.

Writers Series Events
CCA's graduate writing program features intimate encounters, readings, and workshops with acclaimed writers and poets like Tracy K. Smith, Dave Eggers, Antonya Nelson, Stephen Elliot, and more. (see past events)

Thesis Project
You will complete a manuscript of poetry, prose (short stories, novella, creative nonfiction), or a combination of genres.
